Perfect Grilled
Cheese Sandwich
👨â€ğŸ³ Chef's Secret
Use very low heat. It takes time for the cheese to melt perfectly. If the heat is too high, the bread will burn before the cheese even starts to stretch. Tip: Add 1 tsp of mayonnaise along with butter for an extra crispy crust!
Ingredients
- 2 slices high-quality sourdough bread
- 2 thick slices sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 slice monterey jack cheese (for stretch)
- 1 tbsp softened butter
- 1 tsp mayonnaise (optional)
- Pinch of garlic powder (optional)
Preparation Steps
- Bread Prep: Butter the outside of each bread slice generously. Tip: Spread a thin layer of mayo on TOP of the butter for extra golden crunch!
- Assembly: Arrange cheese slices evenly on the non-buttered side of one slice. Close with the second slice, buttered side OUT.
- Grilling: Heat a heavy skillet or non-stick pan over LOW heat. Place sandwich in and cook for 3-4 minutes.
- Flipping: Once bottom is golden and cheese is melting, flip carefully using a wide spatula.
- Finishing: Cook second side for another 2-3 minutes. If cheese isn't fully melted, cover the pan briefly with a lid to trap heat. Cut diagonally and serve hot.
